Final call for the 2025-2026 US Beekeeping Survey!

April 23, 2026

Deadline Extended to Sunday, May3rd (midnight local time)

We are rapidly approaching the end of April!

This year we will leave our portal open until midnight local time on Sunday, May 3rd to allow you to take advantage of the weekend to complete the survey.

We appreciate the more than 1,500 beekeepers that have participated so far. We need a BIG BIG push this final week to hit our goal of 3,000!

Remember, the Survey is a tool for our industry. It is among the most cited works by the honey bee research community, and the numbers you provide are directly communicated to our representatives in Washington by our national beekeeping groups so that they understand the state of beekeeping in the country.

The Survey also helps Extension Specialists understand the practices of their constituents. To facilitate this, we are announcing the launch of the US Beekeeping Survey App. It allows users to visualize key parts of the survey, such as the proportion of beekeepers monitoring for varroa and the popularity of different varroa monitoring tools (Figure 1).

Figure 1. Example outputs from the US Beekeeping Survey App showcasing percentage of beekeepers monitoring the varroa mite (left), and what methods they use (right), according to beekeeping operation type.

We are especially excited that we can now visualize trends over time, so your input into this year’s survey is even more important. For example, sideline beekeepers managing between 50 and 500 colonies are rapidly adopting oxalic acid to manage varroa while reducing their use of amitraz-based products (Figure 2). This is likely a response to reports of varroa being resistant to amitraz in different parts of the country.

The visualizations can be filtered by operation type, state and year so you can take a closer look at what interests you the most. Each visualization can even be downloaded so that they can be easily used in presentations and by the media!

So with that, we ask that you please contribute as a Citizen Scientist to this monitoring effort, first started by the Bee Informed Partnership and now continued by Auburn University, the Apiary Inspectors of America, Oregon State University, and our beekeeping industry partners nationwide.

The deadline has been extended to midnight local time on Sunday, May 3rd. All US beekeepers aged 18 and over – from backyard hobbyists to those running multi-state commercial operations – are invited to participate. The survey will take 20-30 minutes to complete.

The 2025-2026 US Beekeeping Survey is supported by the One Hive Foundation, Project Apis m., the National Honey Boardthe American Beekeeping Federation, the American Honey Producers Association and the North Dakota Department of Agriculture.
